THE CHAI QUEENS is a queer tale of love, longing lust, jealousy, and the quiet, impossible choices women make in the name of family, culture, and survival. Some loves, like chai, brew slowly—steeped in silence, poured in stolen moments, sipped in secrecy.

Amidst the music and rituals of an opulent Indian wedding, childhood best friends Babli and Tejal reunite after 15 years.  Babli, now a wife and mother, moves within the rhythms of tradition, bound by expectations she never dared to question. 

Tejal, a restless traveler, returns home only to find that some distances never truly fade. 

But between the embroidered drapes and drinks, something stirs—unspoken, undeniable. A touch that lingers too long. A glance that carries the weight of years. The ghost of a love they never named, now pressing against the present. 

As the wedding celebrations unfold over three days and nights, Babli and Tejal steal moments over chai—hands brushing over shared cups, warmth seeping into cold fingers, words dissolving into steam – past, present and future collide. Desire wars with duty, longing with loss. In a world that never made space for them, can they carve out their own?

Or will they, once again, walk away—leaving behind not just each other, but the part of themselves that only the other truly knew?
