About the Play:
Shakespeare can be a daunting figure when it comes to his plays. Thus we at TCA have tried to make his work accessible and meaningful for young audiences who continue to keep the bard alive on our stage. Our children will perform extracts from several works of Shakespeare including The Merchant of Venice because religious discrimination is, sadly, not a thing of the past, Hamlet which introduces the children to the very relevant dynamics of parental wisdom and personal conflict, Julius Caesar which gives them an introduction to Classical politics, Romeo and Juliet, to give them a taste of Shakespearean romantic love, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, because-well, because it’s absolutely fun!
These are just some of the extracts that the children will be presenting. Each child has been given roles that come with unique sets of challenges-from extremely complex thoughts and language to performance styles and communicating feelings that go far beyond the language itself. Come one and all and watch our little thespians excel in the arts!
