What can be more challenging, more daunting than Shakespeare? With this impetus, we at TCA have tried to make his work living, accessible and meaningful for young audiences. Our children will perform extracts from different works of Shakespeare such as The Merchant of Venice because religious discrimination is, sadly, not a thing of the past, Hamlet which introduced the children to age-old parental wisdom and the notion of personal conflict, Julius Caesar which gave them a taste of politics, Romeo and Juliet, to give them a taste of romantic love, Shakespeare-style, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, because…well, because it’s absolutely fun. These are just some of the extracts the children will be presenting. Each child has been given roles that come with unique sets of challenges (from extremely complex thoughts and language to performance styles to communicating feelings that go far beyond Shakespearean language). Watch them meet these challenges with élan.
